Dallas Cowboys send clear message over $240 million Dak Prescott with quarterback still in ‘developmental phase’

The Dallas Cowboys made a claim regarding their $240 million quarterback, Dak Prescott.

Prescott and the Cowboys are coming off a disappointing 2024 campaign.

Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury, which significantly contributed to the Cowboys’ 7-10 finish.

Dallas didn’t make the playoffs and decided not to retain Mike McCarthy as the team’s head coach.

The Cowboys promoted Brian Schottenheimer to the role after being the offensive coordinator for the past two seasons.

On Thursday, Schottenheimer made a stunning remark about Prescott, who has earned three Pro Bowl nods in his career.

“I think Dak is in the developmental phases. And that sounds crazy for a guy who’s played that much, but there are things we’re tweaking with Dak,” Schottenheimer said at a media session during OTAs.

Schottheimer made the shocking claim about Prescott, who is entering the 10th season of his career.

Before the 2024 campaign, he was the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL with an average annual value of $60 million per year.

And Prescott is just one season removed from when he recorded 4,516 passing yards, 38 total touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

He was second in MVP voting during that campaign.

But it appears that Schottenheimer is looking for growth from Prescott, who has a 2-5 record in the playoffs.

The first-time NFL head coach wants his quarterback to work on certain traits to lead the franchise to a Super Bowl.

The Cowboys are starving for a Super Bowl.

They haven’t won the big game since 1995.

Dallas is also in a tough NFC East division that consists of the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders, who appeared in the NFC Championship Game.

Dallas is hoping for an improved offense thanks to the addition of star wide receiver George Pickens.

The team traded for the former Pittsburgh Steelers second-round pick last month.

Pickens can help CeeDee Lamb against double teams and put less pressure on Prescott.

The Cowboys are currently participating in OTAs before their mandatory minicamp takes place from June 10-12.
