Former CSK player Suresh Raina gave a hint of his potential return to the Chennai Super Kings franchise in the commentary box during the GT vs CSK clash. CSK management has now finally broken the silence on Suresh Raina’s return to the CSK dressing room.
CSK bowling coach Sridharan Sriram opened up about Raina’s return to the franchise as the batting coach.

Suresh Raina dropped a hint on the CSK’s final match of IPL 2025 regarding his return to the team as a coach.
Raina stated that CSK are searching for a new batting coach. In reply, Aakash Chopra jokingly said, Is his name starting with S. Raina?
Mr. IPL concluded the chat by responding by saying the person has the fastest IPL half-century for CSK - the record held by Raina.
Currently, Michael Hussey is the batting coach of CSK. CSK’s batters haven’t been in form in this IPL season.
CSK's bowling coach stated that he had no idea about Suresh Raina’s new role in the franchise.
“I don’t know. I have to ask him if he said that,” Sriram stated in the post-match press conference after the CSK vs GT match.
Suresh Raina’s IPL career
Raina played for 12 years for CSK and has been a key member of their success in the IPL. Raina retired in 2021 from the IPL, when no franchise bought him in the mega auction.
Raina played 205 IPL matches and scored 5528 runs in his career at an average of 32.5. Mr. IPL also smashed 39 half-centuries and one century in his IPL career.
If Raina wants to join the CSK camp again, then he can take up the mentor role or the batting coach role. Currently, Raina is doing commentary from the past few years in the IPL.
CSK’s batting failure in IPL 2025
CSK have finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time in IPL history. They have to work on plenty of things, particularly in their batting department.
Before the signing of Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, and Urvil Patel, CSK were unable to chase a target of 170+ in the season. CSK’s top order wasn’t performing at all.
CSK management pushed Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin to bat up the order due to the failure of batters.
After signing the three young batters midway, CSK’s batting was looking good, but they have to make many changes going forward to the next season. CSK scored 230 runs in their last league stage match against Gujarat Titans, which is their highest score this season.
