Freshmen Claire Gress and Saige Block each collected three hits as Yorba Linda’s softball team defeated visiting Valley Christian of Cerritos 14-3 in the CIF-SS Division 3 quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Yorba Linda (16-12) finished with 15 hits, and scored six runs in the first and fifth innings.
Gress went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and a double while Block went 3 for 5 with a RBI and three runs scored.
Junior Samantha Cook pitched a complete game with four strikes for the Mustangs, who finished second in the North Hills League.
Yorba Linda plays host to No. 4 seed Marina in the semifinals Saturday at 11 a.m.
Also in Division 3:
Kennedy 7, Aquinas 2: UC Riverside-bound Emory Cheng struck out nine in a complete game and Sydney Batalon had three hits with two RBIs to lead the host Fighting Irish (13-15) to the semifinals for the second time in three seasons.
Kennedy also reached the Division 3 semifinals in 2023.
The Fighting Irish play host to Westlake in the semifinals Saturday.
In Division 4:
El Toro 9, Indio 3: Princeton-bound Camyrn Bradshaw and Sadie Mitchell each hit home runs and Saylor Hinkson went 3 for 3 with two doubles to power the visiting Chargers (14-12-1).
Bradshaw went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs.
Hayden Stofle struck out six in a complete game for the Chargers, who plays host to No. 2 seed Warren on Saturday.
In Division 6:
University 7, Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary 5: Carson Cruz threw a complete game and three players had two hits apiece to lead the visiting Trojans (14-10).
Sophia Weinberg, Amela Hoang and Maiko Shiraiwa each had two hits for University. The Trojans led 7-1 going to the bottom of the fourth.
University plays host to the winner of Ramona Convent-Pasadena Poly in the semifinals Saturday.
In Division 7:
Westminster 9, El Monte 7: Hope International-bound Jocelyn Aguilar went 3 for 3 to help lead the visiting Lions (16-11) past No. 1 seed El Monte.
Westminster plays host to Rancho Mirage in the semifinals Saturday at 11 a.m.
