As Florida figures out its roster for the 2025-26 basketball season, all eyes are on Alex Condon.
Condon declared for the 2025 NBA Draft on April 16. Condon kept the door open for a return to UF, stating that he will only remain in the draft if told to expect he would be selected in the top 30 picks.
A day after Condon and his teammates visited the White House to celebrate Florida’s national championship, Gators head coach Todd Golden was asked about the status of the standout big man.
We’ve had good conversations with Alex,” Golden told reporters, per Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel. “We’ve been really respectful of his process, and he’s been great in terms of communicating with us, in terms of where everything’s at. I’m cautiously optimistic, but we’re going to be very mindful of his process.
Condon is coming off an All-SEC season in which he averaged 10.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. His return would be significant for Florida’s hopes to repeat as national champions in 2025-26.
Things have looked up for the 2025-26 Gators as of late. On Monday, 40-game starter Rueben Chineylu withdrew from the NBA Draft and announced his return to Florida. Then, on Tuesday, the Gators picked up a commitment from standout Arkansas transfer guard Boogie Fland, who tested the NBA Draft waters and opted for another season in college.
Players have until May 28 to withdraw from the NBA Draft and maintain college eligibility. At this point, many portal players have found new homes, making things tricky for the Gators if Condon decides to stay in the draft. Golden acknowledged the possibility.
It would be a blow,” Golden said of a potential Condon departure. “We have some contingency plans in place, but we want Alex back for sure.
In addition to Fland, Florida has also added guards Xaivian Lee (Princeton) and AJ Brown (Ohio) via the portal. The 2025-26 roster will include incoming freshmen CJ Ingram and Alex Lloyd.
Gator fans are patiently waiting for Condon’s big decision.
