MARK Cuban has invested in the Greek Basketball Association.
Cuban, 66, has teamed up with GBA founder Michael Bales.
Bales, 24, founded the GBA in 2022 while still in college.
The league has now grown to more than 30 college campuses, having initially been entirely student-run.
Cuban’s investment will enable the GBA to expand – with the league targeting more sponsorship deals and better visibility online.
Upon the announcement of his involvement, Cuban gushed over his new venture.
“This is one of the most original grassroots sports movements I’ve seen in a long time,” the former Dallas Mavericks owner said.
“The GBA has tapped into the passion, rivalry, and brotherhood of college Greek life and turned it into something that has real potential.
“This isn’t just a league; it’s a brand with serious upside. I’m excited to help take it to the next stage.”
Bales, meanwhile, added, “Our mission is to give students a platform that combines competition, camaraderie, and culture.
“Partnering with Mark Cuban validates everything we’ve been building since day one and gives us the momentum and credibility to scale fast, smart, and authentically.
“We are ready to take the GBA to the next level.”
Cuban sold 73 per cent of the Dallas Mavericks to the Adelson family in 2023.
The businessman had owned the Mavs in its entirety since 2000, and was courtside as they won an NBA title in 2011.
It was initially claimed that Cuban would remain involved in basketball operations with the Mavericks.
But last summer it was confirmed that he was no longer in charge of day-to-day affairs.
I was just as dumbfounded as everybody else
Mark CubanFollowing the controversial Luka Doncic trade, Cuban admitted that he would not have made the move.
“If I had any influence, the trade wouldn’t happen,” Cuban told the Your Mom’s House podcast.
“I was just as dumbfounded as everybody else.
“After I sold the Mavericks, the new owner Patrick Dumont decided that, ‘O.K., in Nico (Harrison) we trust.’ So, here we are.”
Cuban was previously a regular investor on Shark Tank, having joined the show in season two.
Following season 16, the businessman quit the popular show.
