Nick Saban has won 292 games and 7 national championships, making him arguably the greatest head coach in college football history.
Now, he’s an Emmy winner.
Saban, who joined ESPN as a college football analyst after his retirement, has won a Sports Emmy for his work on College GameDay, announced Tuesday. Saban won the award for Outstanding Personality/Emerging On-Air Talent, the second ESPN personality to win in that category, joining ESPN NBA host Malika Andrews (2022).
During his time at Alabama, Saban famously had a love/hate relationship with the media, examples of which are well documented on YouTube. But following his retirement after the 2023 season, he joined ESPN and the GameDay cast, garnering rave reviews for his work — as well as being responsible for several off-the-cuff moments.
By all accounts, Saban’s fit right in with the crew, and his Emmy win certainly reflects that. Here’s to more memorable times with Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, and Pat McAfee, with whom Saban built quite the relationship throughout the 2024 season.
College GameDay returns on August 30. That day will mark Lee Corso’s final show as the longtime analyst, and the only remaining member of the original cast from 1987, is retiring.
