The historic rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese is still ongoing, and the WNBA is now trying to capitalize on it in the professional ranks.
During their college careers at Iowa and LSU, Clark and Reese engaged in some big-time matchups during March Madness. Now, the two are squaring off in the opening game of their 2nd season in the professional league.
That game between Clark’s Indiana Fever and Reese’s Chicago Sky has been dominated by the Fever across the board. Clark was the major catalyst throughout, but one of the major incidents in the game occurred when Clark was whistled for a hard foul on Reese.
The foul on Clark was originally called as common on the court. However, a review of the play upgraded the foul to Flagrant 1 on Clark.
During a mid-game interview between the 3rd and 4th quarters, Clark was asked by Holly Rowe about the foul. Clark downplayed the incident, describing it as a simple harder foul to force Reese to shoot the free throws.
“It’s just a good take foul. Either Angel gets a wide-open 2 points, or we send them to the free-throw line,” said Clark. “Nothing malicious about it, it was just a good take foul, every basketball player knows that.”
To Clark’s point, Reese went 1-for-2 from the free-throw line, so the foul worked overall. Indiana also wrapped up a massive 93-58 win to open the season.
