Say it ain’t so!
Luke Nichols, the host of Outdoor Boys on YouTube, announced his sudden retirement from the platform in a heartfelt video titled “Goodbye.”
Nichols posted the farewell via YouTube on Saturday, May 17, and explained that he was taking a step back to focus on his family. Outdoor Boys, which launched in May 2015, has become a YouTube sensation with nearly 15 million subscribers and two billion views. As a result, Nichols worries about his family’s privacy and the pressures of being recognized in public.
For those who have never tuned in, Outdoor Boys is a family-friendly channel that focuses on outdoor adventures like camping, fishing, survival skills, bushcraft, and wilderness exploration.
Nichols, who is a former criminal defense and immigration attorney, has also showcased his family vacations to beautiful destinations like Hawaii and Africa. His wife, Rebecca, and his three sons, Tommy, Nate, and Jacob are all staples of his content.
With such a huge fanbase, it’s not surprising that his viewers are devastated by the news. Although commenting is turned off on the Outdoor Boys YouTube channel, people have flocked to Reddit to mourn.
“Bummer. His solo winter camping videos were absolutely amazing. Good to go out on top. Thanks for the memories,” one user wrote. “Dang, my wife and I loved watching his videos as a weekend ritual. Thanks for all the content, Luke!” added another.
“This man came out of nowhere, comments turned off, made thousands of hours of quality videos, gained 14 million subscribers, quit at the very top of his game to protect his family. What an absolute legend. I love his videos so, so much and this makes me so sad and so happy,” a third user chimed in, while a fourth echoed, “Me and my dad really bonded over his channel and he inspired our family to go outdoors more, thanks, partner.”
