The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has cleared Mustafizur Rahman to rejoin Delhi Capitals for the remainder of the IPL 2025 league stage. Mustafizur has been granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play for the Delhi-based franchise ahead of his international commitments against the UAE.
Several overseas players opted out of returning to India after the IPL 2025 was suspended for a break, including Jake Fraser-McGurk. Delhi secured a replacement by signing Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman for ₹6 crore. The 2020 runners-up strengthened their squad amid the availability issues.
A controversy occurred as Mustafizur Rahman traveled to the UAE with the Bangladesh team for international duties without a NOC to play in the IPL. However, as per a report by ESPNcricinfo, the BCB has now issued him an NOC. He could play for Delhi Capitals during a short window from May 18 to 24.
Mustafizur will be available for Delhi’s final three league-stage matches but not for the playoffs. The BCB also confirmed that he will play the first T20I against the UAE in Sharjah on Saturday before flying to India. It remains uncertain if he will feature in Delhi’s fixture against Gujarat Titans later that same day.
Mitchell Starc Confirms He Will Not Return to India for Remainder of IPL 2025
Delhi Capitals’ arrangement with Mustafizur Rahman faced a hurdle earlier in the week when the IPL and the franchise confirmed his signing, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board revealed it hadn’t yet been contacted for a No Objection Certificate.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc announced on Friday that he will not return to India for the remainder of IPL 2025. Donovan Ferreira, who made a single appearance this season, will also not return.
Starc has been picked in Australia’s squad for the World Test Championship Final against South Africa next month. He is the top wicket-taker for Delhi this season, taking 14 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 26.14.
Delhi Capitals Set for Final Three League Matches of IPL 2025 Season
Delhi Capitals are set to play their final three league matches of IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans (GT), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 18, 21, and 24, respectively. With 13 points from 11 games, two more wins could secure them a spot in the top four. The team is in fifth place in the standings.
Mustafizur Rahman played for Chennai Super Kings last season and took 14 wickets in nine matches. He will rejoin Delhi Capitals, a team he previously represented in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The left-arm pacer missed a few matches in the 2024 season due to national duty.
Mustafizur has featured in 57 IPL matches, picking up 61 wickets at a decent economy rate of 8.14. In international cricket, the fast bowler has represented the Bangladesh national cricket team in 106 T20I matches, claiming 132 wickets.
