India National Cricket Team batter Prithvi Shaw posted a cryptic message ahead of the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The tournament is all set to resume from Saturday (17th May) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru with the clash between RCB and KKR.

From being touted as the future of Indian Cricket to being nowhere near the scheme of things even in domestic cricket, Prithvi Shaw has experienced a massive decline. The batter faced a lot of backlash for his off-the-field activities, and it hampered his career as well.
Even the Mumbai teammates, as well as management, reportedly talked about the indiscipline that Shaw created. They openly mentioned that the batter needs to correct his work ethic and work hard if he wants to stake his claim back in domestic as well as international cricket.
Shaw had a terrible domestic season last year. The batter scored just 59 runs in the 4 games that he played in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. After that, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25, he mustered 197 runs at an average of 21.88 with the best of 49 runs, which came against Vidarbha in the quarterfinal.
His poor performances saw Mumbai selectors drop him from the squad of the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. Things got worse for him when he went unsold in the league, and it was expected that he might find a place in some team as a replacement for injured players.

With IPL 2025 now all set to resume and franchises naming replacement players as well, Shaw posted a cryptic message on his Instagram account. He said that he needed a break and wrote: "I need a break."

Notably, when Shaw made his debut for the India National Cricket Team, the batter set the stage on fire. He slammed a century on his Test debut and was also magnificent for the team in the white-ball formats, slamming runs at a quick rate at the top of the order.
Prithvi Shaw played for the Delhi Capitals
With the kind of performances that he put in, it was almost certain that he had locked his place in the team across the formats. But after his injury couldn't make a return to the team. His off-field antics, too, didn't work against him, and since then, he hasn't been able to make a comeback.
Shaw played for Delhi Capitals in the IPL from 2018. He played a massive role for the team as he slammed 1892 runs in 79 matches for Delhi Capitals at a strike rate of around 148.
