The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has submitted a weather report from the Meteorological Department to the BCCI to retain hosting rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Final. According to the latest report, CAB has requested that the prestigious final match be held at their iconic stadium.
The IPL 2025 final was scheduled to take place at the iconic Eden Gardens on May 25. However, the final has been postponed to June 3 due to a one-week suspension. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the 2024 IPL season, and the venue was granted the rights to host both the IPL 2025 final and the Qualifier 2 match.
Earlier, it was reported that the IPL governing body is considering moving the final match from Kolkata to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. They want to change the venue in response to unfavorable weather forecasts predicted for Kolkata on June 3.
However, the Cricket Association of Bengal has responded to concerns about the weather affecting the IPL 2025 final. According to a RevSportz report, CAB sent a letter to the BCCI stating that weather predictions made weeks in advance are unreliable.
"The Association approached the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata asking for a report on the weather pattern expected in Kolkata on 3 June. The report from the Met office, which has been submitted to the BCCI, clearly states that it is too early to make such a prediction and it is only around the 25th of May that such a forecast can be made," the report reads.
We Remain Confident That Things Will Work Out - CAB
The CAB has also obtained information from the Indian Meteorological Department in Delhi. They included this response in their letter to the BCCI.
“We remain confident that things will work out because we have done a very good job in organising everything. Also, you can’t predict weather patterns so early and we have submitted all official documents to this effect," a source told Rev Sportz.
The IPL 2023 Final was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, it was affected by weather conditions. The game had to use a reserved day due to rain interruptions, which also led to five overs being lost during the second innings.
CAB May Receive 2026 T20 World Cup Match as Compensation for IPL Final
The BCCI has yet to finalize the venues for the IPL 2025 playoffs and final, even though the dates are already set. If the final is shifted from Kolkata to Ahmedabad due to early weather concerns, Eden Gardens could be compensated with a major match during the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The Eden Gardens hosted the T20 World Cup final in 2016 and a semi-final in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Notably, the T20 World Cup is co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February–March 2026.
On the other hand, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosted the summit clashes in 2022 and 2023. In 2022, the venue was awarded the final after the entire league was held in Mumbai. It retained the hosting rights the following year as the 2022 champions.
