Jackson Cantwell is pushing back on a narrative surrounding his recruitment.
Cantwell, the 247Sports Composite’s No. 1 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class, verbally committed to Miami on Tuesday. Georgia had been considered the favorite to land Cantwell, but the Hurricanes overtook the Bulldogs at the last minute. The 5-star offensive lineman does not appreciate the narrative that his decision came down to the biggest NIL deal.
Speaking to DawgNation, Cantwell directly called out On3’s Pete Nakos. He said Nako’s reporting on his recruitment is spreading a “false narrative.”
“I think there’s a false narrative that’s why I’m choosing (Miami),” Cantwell said. “I think relationships won out for Miami; that’s kind of what did it for me. They spent the most time with me. They put the most effort into recruiting me. I’ve got a lot of skin in the game with all of these schools as far as getting represented by Drew (Rosenhaus) and making sure I’m going to be fairly compensated. I think every school has done a good job of that, being accommodating with that, and I think that anyone who would say otherwise about how I’ve done my recruitment is being misled.”
In addition to Miami and Georgia, Cantwell also included Ohio State and Oregon in his final four.
