The ongoing Karen Read retrial in Massachusetts was unexpectedly paused this week due to "unavoidable circumstances."
On Tuesday, May 13, the court was supposed to hear testimony from its next witness in Read's murder retrial over the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend, John O'Keefe back in January 2022.
However, it was announced shortly after proceedings were supposed to begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday that there would be no trial taking place today.

— Boston Herald (@bostonherald) May 13, 2025Read, 45, is accused of killing O'Keefe, who was found dead in the snow on the front lawn of a residence in Canton, Mass., in the early morning hours of January 29, 2022.
The prosecution alleges that Read hit O'Keefe with her SUV after a night of drinking then left him to die. She is being charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating a motor vehicle under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
The case already went to trial in 2024, ending in a hung jury and prompting a retrial that began last month.
