A New York Yankees romp turned sour on Monday night, as third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera suffered a serious injury.
Cabrera was hurt while sliding home on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Judge in the ninth inning that gave New York the final run of an 11-5 victory over the host Seattle Mariners.
The 26-year-old MLB star got his left leg caught underneath him and it twisted violently as he touched the plate.
Cabrera immediately screamed in agony as the gruesome moment unfolded, and trainers from both teams rushed to his aid.
A cart was originally brought onto the field, but an ambulance soon followed to take him to hospital after medical staff put an air cast on his leg.
Players from both teams stood in silence on the field as they watched the aftermath of the scary incident.
Yankees team captain Aaron Judge knelt beside Cabrera, offering comfort as medical personnel got ready to move him.
Judge was also emotional as he spoke to reporters after the game, and said the way that Cabrera crawled back to home plate to make sure his run counted after suffering the injury says ‘everything about who he is.’
He also detailed the Venezuelan’s words as he was taken to hospital.
“Before he got carted off, he just called me over to say, ‘Did I score?'” Judge said of Cabrera.
“So it’s kind of shows you what type of guy he is.
“Something like that happens, and that was on his mind through all the pain and everything.”

“I think everyone understands it was a pretty serious situation,” Boone said.
“Just praying for our guy Cabbie tonight and hoping for the best and trust that he’s in good hands as he goes through the night here.”
Boone also relayed the brief conversation between Judge and Cabrera, adding that finding out he scored made the latter ‘smile’ as he got on the gurney.
“Cabbie does it right every day,” the manager added.
“He is an example in so many ways for anyone to look to, for how to go about living their life.

In 34 games, he’s hitting .243 with a .630 OPS, four doubles, one home run and 11 RBIs. He went 1-for-4 on Monday with a walk.
His injury came just days after another sickening incident, which saw a fan fall from the stands at PNC Park.
