The former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif adjured Virat Kohli not to retire from the red-ball format before the big series against England. But Kohli surprised everyone by announcing his sudden retirement from Test cricket.
The ace batter was not enjoying his time in the red-ball format, as in the last five years, he scored just four tons, and his average has been below 30 in four out of five years. In his last outing in Test matches, he only managed to score 190 runs in nine innings with one century as well.
After constant rumors of Kohli's retirement from the red-ball format, Kohli finally announced his retirement from Test cricket on his social media. He was just 770 runs away from achieving the feat of 10,000 Test runs as he finished his red-ball career with 9,230 runs in 123 Tests with an average of 48.7.
Kohli's final Test appearance was in the Border Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia. His partner Rohit Sharma also announced his retirement from Test cricket a few days back.
Kaif called Kohli India's Babbar Sher on his social media and advised him to take a break from cricket. Kaif also underlines outside off-stump delivery, which has been troubling him for many years.

"Virat Kohli, India's Babbar Sher, wants to relax. He is thinking about retirement. I think he should go to England, prove his point, and end his career on a high note. Because of the work he did in the T20 World Cup, he should end his career on a good note."
"Is he thinking about retirement out of helplessness? Because there is one kind of delivery that has been troubling him for many years. The ball bowled outside the off stump," Kaif stated in a video on X.
