Delhi Police declare Arun Jaitley Stadium bomb threat a hoax, heighten security measures

The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi came under massive threat on Friday (9th May) amid the tensions between India and Pakistan. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) received an email that threatened to bomb the stadium.

The tensions between India and Pakistan are flaring up with each passing day. Both nations have been leaving no stone unturned in launching attacks at each other, and over the last few days, there have been several drone and missile attacks as well.

    Amid all this, the Delhi and District Cricket Association received the mail which stated that they have Pakistan faithful sleeper cells across India, and they will activate them and blast the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The mail read:

    "We’ve Pak faithful sleeper cells across India. We will activate them for Op Sindoor. We will blast your stadium.”

    Bomb threat at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi was a hoax

    However, it was learned that the bomb threat at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi was a hoax. But the security has been beefed up at the venue. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and dog squad, along with the Delhi Police teams, rushed to the iconic venue after the threat and checked it in all corners.

    Following that, DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma said that they received the threat via email, and they immediately forwarded it to the police. He also mentioned that the bomb squad was there too, but nothing was found. Speaking to PTI, he said:

    "We received a bomb threat via email on the address of DDCA. We immediately forwarded it to Delhi Police. The Delhi Police bomb squad came and inspected the whole venue. Nothing was found."

    The official in Delhi Police also provided an update about the same, saying that nothing suspicious was found, but they have increased the security in and around the stadium. Speaking to PTI, he said:

    "Nothing suspicious was found. Further, we have stepped up security in and around the stadium."

    Amid the tensions, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was postponed as well. The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi was one of the prime venues during the league, as it hosted the games of the Delhi Capitals. The league was suspended for one week, and the decision will be taken soon.

    The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi was all set to host the game between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans on Sunday (11th May). But, thankfully, the league got postponed, and the authorities will now have all the time to look at the venue and ensure the safety of the people there.
