South Carolina transfer RB hires lawyer for NCAA eligibility fight; Shane Beamer reacts

South Carolina transfer RB Rahsul Faison continues to await a decision from the NCAA on his eligibility for 2025.

Faison, who signed out of the class of 2019, was most recently at Utah State, where he totaled over 1,100 yards while scoring 9 touchdowns in 2024. He entered the transfer portal and joined South Carolina in January, but still hasn’t heard from the NCAA on a waiver that would grant him a seventh year of eligibility. Faison didn’t play from 2019-2021.

On Wednesday, Faison hired attorney Darren Heitner as he seeks a favorable decision for 2025. Shane Beamer, who previously expressed frustration over the delay, was asked about Faison’s decision on Thursday and said that the program didn’t direct Faison to hire Heitner.

“I saw it on social media like y’all did. I said, ‘OK, that’s cool’,” Beamer said, according to 247Sports. “That was really Rahsul and I think that is just kind of the next step. Like I said the other night, I understand the NCAA has a lot on their plate. There are a lot of things in the balance here and it is something that we have been trying to get an answer on since January. I think Rahsul felt like was the next thing to do to try and maybe fast forward this thing along.”

We’ll see if Faison’s decision to retain the services of Heitner can bring what’s been a lengthy process to a close.
