Eerie new drone footage shows the "devastating" damage caused when a historic Washington State tourist attraction all but burned to the ground.
Late last month, Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad’s largest wooden trestle was completely destroyed by fire. In new footage taken by Todd John and uploaded to Instagram and Facebook, the structure still smoldered, creating an unsettling atmosphere as the camera traveled the length of the damage, showing collapsed sections of the bridge where the twisted railing seemed to float in the air.
"The view from above is devastating," local nonprofit Western Forest Industries Museum wrote on Facebook, noting how the "rail has twisted and melted in the heat" and that the "damage is worse than we feared."

Followers have been flooding the organization with support throughout the disaster, which one called "so incredibly sad."
Their GoFundMe account has raised $127,225 of the $200,000 goal to rebuild after the fire, which began on April 30th.
"...a catastrophic fire destroyed Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad’s largest wooden trestle—a 28-span bridge between Mineral and Morton that had been fully rebuilt just 20 years ago and was still structurally sound," they wrote, calling it "the backbone of our future"—a "critical connection" in their ongoing restoration efforts.
"After years of work, planning, and progress, we were finally on the brink of a new era—ready to restore service, revitalize the communities we serve, and build long-term financial sustainability for the railroad."
It's unknown if the fire was "careless or intentional," but it was determined to be caused by humans, with one unnamed suspect identified so far.
