The NCAA’s latest Academic Progress Rates (APR) once again show several UNC athletic programs scoring perfect or near-perfect scores during the 2023-24 academic year.
The NCAA uses APR scores to track academic performance of scholarship students on varsity programs. The score measure eligibility and retention each semester. The minimum NCAA benchmark is 930.
Of UNC’s 28 varsity programs, 15 scored a perfect 1000 in the single-year rate. Men’s and women’s golf, women’s cross country and women’s tennis each scored 1000s in the four-year rate.
This is the 15th consecutive year the women’s tennis program has recorded a perfect single-year APR score, which is the longest streak of any program on the UNC campus. The men’s golf program has now recorded perfect scores in nine straight years, the longest of any men’s program at UNC. The women’s cross-country team’s four-year perfect score was its first since the 2010-11 year.
Other programs to record perfect single-year scores include baseball, women’s basketball, field hockey, women’s lacrosse and women’s soccer. The women’s soccer team also recorded a four-year rate of 997, which marks the program’s eighth consecutive cycle with a four-year score of at least 997.
The football program recorded a four-year rate of 996, tied for its best year ever. The baseball program also posted its best four-year rate ever at 992.
In total, UNC’s single-year, all-sport rate is 991, which is up two points from a year ago. The four-year rate is also 991, which matches last year’s score. It’s the fourth consecutive year and sixth time in the last eight years the school’s multi-year rate is at least 990.
