Medical drama Malpractice returns to ITV with a second season and the spotlight this time on a psychiatric case.
After the success of the first series in 2023, which focused on an incident in A&E, the medical investigators are called in this time to probe an incident at a North Yorkshire hospital involving psychiatric registrar Dr James Ford played by Tom Hughes.
Dr Norma Callahan (Helen Behan) and Dr George Adjei (Jordan Kouame), of the Medical Investigation Unit (MIU), must get to the bottom of an incident where Dr Ford found himself torn between a new mother attending a routine postnatal check-up and the sectioning of a psychotic woman during a busy on-call shift.
Written by Grace Ofori-Attah, this is the home turf for the former consultant psychiatrist who is behind hits such as Playing Nice and Boiling Point.
She said: “I’m thrilled to be bringing back a second series of Malpractice.
“This time, I’m excited to be delving into the world of psychiatry, my medical specialty, with an incredible cast led by Tom Hughes and a fantastic crew led by Anthony Philipson.”

“The supporting artists were all trained staff, so when we were doing scenes with surgery they were handling the equipment in the right way.
“They knew where they needed to go and how things needed to be done, so that was just invaluable.”
