South Carolina still doesn’t know the 2025 status of a transfer running back, and Shane Beamer is getting frustrated.
Utah State transfer Rahsul Faison joined the Gamecocks in January. More than 3 months later, South Carolina still does not know if Faison will be officially eligible to play this fall.
At a Welcome Home tour stop in Summerville, Beamer was asked if he had an update on Faison. The coach said the Gamecocks have not heard an answer from the NCAA.
“And it’s getting frustrating, just to be completely frank,” Beamer said. “I understand the NCAA has a lot on their plate, but the fact that they’ve had everything they needed from us since January – we don’t have an answer – it’s frankly disappointing. We’ve given them everything they needed back in January. They asked for more. We gave them what they needed. We gave them what they needed. We’ve been in contact with other schools that he was at, to get stuff from them that they needed.
“Again, I know they have a lot on their plate, but now we’re in the middle of May and still don’t have an answer, and we just went through a portal window where we didn’t add a running back, but we don’t have an answer on whether we’re going to (include Faison as a scholarship running back). That’s tough, when you start planning for 2025.”
Faison’s college career began in 2019 at Marshall, where he grayshirted (enrolled but did not play football). He did not see any action until his 2022 season at JUCO program Snow College. He had a stop at Lackawanna College in 2020, where he took online classes but did not play football, before transferring to Snow in 2021. Faison played for Utah State in 2023 and ’24.
Following the Diego Pavia ruling, Faison petitioned for additional eligibility.
