Former Tennessee star Garrett Crochet is off to a strong start in MLB this season. Originally breaking into the majors with the Chicago White Sox, Crochet was traded to the Boston Red Sox in the offseason.
On Sunday, Crochet was starting against the Minnesota Twins, and he had another solid start. However, he was involved in one scary incident that appeared to have the potential to knock him out of the game.
In the top of the 4th inning, Crochet took a line drive off the tip of his nose, and he was quite fortunate not to take the ball square to his face. The ball ricocheted off enough for the Red Sox to recover for the out, meaning Crochet was credited with an assist on the play.
Here’s the wild but true line drive:

— Tyler Milliken (@tylermilliken_) May 4, 2025Further good news from the play is that Crochet was not forced to exit the game. He completed 5 innings and allowed just a lone earned run while striking out 6 batters. Unfortunately, Boston’s bullpen would crumble with 4 earned runs across the final 4 innings as the Twins rallied for a 5-4 win.
Crochet is coming of his first full MLB season as a starter, and he’s off to a solid start for the Red Sox with a 2.02 ERA across his first 8 starts of the year.
