Rory McIlroy was personally welcomed to golf’s career grand slam club by Tiger Woods after winning the 2025 Masters.
The Northern Irishman defeated Justin Rose in a play-off to become the first European player to win all four majors.
McIlroy revealed on The Tonight Show hosted by Jimmy Fallon that another one of the half dozen grand slam winners reached out to congratulate him.
“Tiger said, ‘welcome to the club, kid’, which was just so cool,” said McIlroy.
“There are only six people who have ever achieved the career Grand Slam in golf, and there are only four of us who are still living.
“Gary Player, who is 90 years old, Jack Nicklaus, who is 86 years old, and then Woods and myself, so it’s really cool to be a part of something like that.”
Woods still boasts his own unique piece of history as the only ever player to complete the ‘Tiger Slam’, holding all four titles at once.
Aged 24, he won the Masters in 2001, having won the three previous majors in 2000.
Music icon Sir Elton John also reached out to McIlroy through unconventional methods – after a pulsating final round that gripped the sporting world.
“I haven’t actually been able to connect with him yet,” McIlroy said. “It was his assistant who left me a voicemail and said Elton John would like to congratulate you in person.
“The only problem is he doesn’t have a cell phone, so you might get a call from a number in Windsor from a landline.
“He’s an icon. It’s amazing. I mean, I didn’t even know Elton John knew what golf was.”
“Everyone came up to me and they were like, ‘oh, you don’t know what you put us through on that Sunday’. I was like, ‘how do you think I was feeling?'” McIlroy saidGettyAll of McIlroy's major championships

McIlroy’s Masters win came as a huge relief to him as it was his 17th time playing the tournament.
Back in 2011, a younger McIlroy blew a four shot lead going into the final round.
It was also 11 years since his previous major title – the 2014 PGA Championship.
Since his historic win, McIlroy has reiterated that the PGA Tour and LIV Golf need to merge to preserve the sport.
Despite involvement from US President Donald Trump, talks have slowed.
“I believe that a deal to bring everyone back together would ultimately be beneficial for the world of golf,” McIlroy told CNBC.
“I think the longer that you have all the best players, only playing together four times a year, is, you know, long-term detrimental to the game as a whole.”
