Amazon confirms Prime Day 2025 with ‘deep discounts’ but customers warned of issue

AMAZON has officially teased its 2025 Prime Day event.

This year promises Prime members access to some of the best deals of the summer.

The e-commerce giant said the sale will feature deep discounts on popular brands, trending items, creator favorites, and Amazon-exclusive products.

Though the company hasn’t announced the exact dates, it said more information would be released soon.

Prime Day 2025 will offer discounts across more than 35 categories including electronics, kitchen, beauty, and apparel.

Amazon is also promoting the event as a way for members to get a head start on back-to-school shopping, all with fast, free delivery included in a Prime membership.

“We know members love savings, so we are working hard around the world to offer the hottest deals from new brands and trending products you can only shop on Amazon,” the company said.

Last year’s Prime Day event saw record-breaking sales for Amazon, with more items sold during the two-day promotion than ever before.

Independent sellers – most of them small and medium-sized businesses – played a major role in that success, selling over 200 million items in 2024 alone.

These sellers make up over 60% of Amazon’s total marketplace sales, helping to drive the platform’s wide selection.

However, some businesses are reportedly scaling back their participation or pulling out of Prime Day entirely due to the impact of tariffs, according to Reuters.

Experts note that smaller sellers are especially vulnerable to tariffs since they lack the leverage to negotiate deals with vendors.

Despite that, Amazon said it has seen a “strong response” from its selling partners ahead of Prime Day 2025.

“We’re working with our broad, varied range of valued selling partners in our store to support them in adapting to the developing environment while maintaining low prices for customers,” a spokesperson said.

The White House on Tuesday responded sharply to a report by Punchbowl News that Amazon planned to show tariff costs alongside product prices.

“This is a hostile and political act by Amazon,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

“Americans should buy American. It’s another reason why we are onshoring critical supply chains here at home.

“The team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store considered the idea of listing import charges on certain products.

“This was never approved and is not going to happen,” the company stated on its website.

Amazon did not respond to specific questions regarding the White House’s comments.

In the background, consumer confidence is showing signs of strain.

A University of Michigan report found expectations dropped 32% through April – the sharpest decline since the 1990 recession.

Inflation expectations also climbed to 6.5%, the highest level since 1981.

Still, Amazon is betting that fast delivery, broad selection, and big discounts will win customers over once again this summer.

Last year, the company delivered more than 9 billion items same-day or next-day worldwide.

Prime members saved nearly $95 billion globally on fast, free delivery in 2024, with US members alone saving an average of over $500 – about four times the cost of an annual membership.

With consumer wallets stretched thin and inflation still top of mind, Prime Day 2025 may be one of Amazon’s most watched – and scrutinized – shopping events yet.
