It’s no secret that the Arizona Cardinals have doubled down on defense through the first three rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft.
After many experts felt the team nailed its Day 1 pick of defensive tackle Walter Nolen, similar praise is being lofted for adding cornerback Will Johnson and Oregon pass rusher Jordan Burch in the second and third rounds, respectively.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. called the Cardinals one of the biggest winners of Day 2 and called Johnson “the complete package” when healthy. Johnson was No. 11 overall on his board entering the draft.
“Johnson had nine career interceptions, thanks to his high-end instincts, quickness and diagnosing ability,” Kiper wrote. “We’re going to look back at this pick and wonder how Johnson slid all the way to the middle of Round 2.”

Chad Reuter of NFL.com awarded Arizona an “A-” grade on Day 2 after posting an “A” on Day 1.
He said taking Johnson when the Cardinals did was “worth the risk” given the injury situation that scared teams off in the first round.
“If healthy, he’ll be a feisty zone corner with good ball skills,” Reuter added.

He called the Burch pick a “nice find in the third round.”
The 6-foot-4, 279-pound EDGE was highly productive over his final three collegiate seasons, posting at least eight tackles for loss and at least three sacks in each.
“He possesses the size to be a presence in the run game and the quickness to get to the quarterback,” Reuter added.
