Sai Sudharsan is all set to feature in his maiden Test series for India in the upcoming five-match tour against England. The prolific batter earned his call-up to the national side after a phenomenal domestic and IPL 2025 seasons. Ahead of the IND vs ENG 1st Test in Leeds, Sudharsan revealed who is his biggest inspiration and his response comes as a surprise to all.
Sudharsan’s inspiration is…
In a video posted by BCCI on social media platform X, Sudharsan names Washington Sundar as his inspiration. The Tamil Nadu batter said that he has looked up to the all-rounder since he was young, adding that they had played together in a few games and that it was always special.
“He’s been my inspiration when I was young. I’ve played few games against him, so it’s always special. To be honest, we’ve looked up to him a lot. The way he went up and played for the country, it was really quick. So I had that in mind and it was great to see him,” Sudharsan said.
Sudharsan and Sundar played alongside each other in Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. Now, the duo will once again play together in the upcoming Test series against England.

— BCCI (@BCCI) June 16, 2025“He did well in IPL and then he played for the country. So it was a great motivator for me from Chennai, from knowing him from when I was young, playing with him and it was a kind of inspiration that made me feel that I also want to do the same way,” Sudharsan added.
Acknowledging Sai’s words, Sundar said that he has been told that by the former many times before. Washi revealed that a lot of his friends and coaches had told him about Sudharsan’s meteoric rise and noted that he has only managed to get better over the last 3-4 years.
