Tennessee suffers decommitment from 4-star DL recruit

Tennessee suffered a significant loss on the recruiting trail on Wednesday evening.

The Vols lost a commitment from Tyson Bacon, a 4-star defensive lineman who had been committed to Tennessee since October of 2024. In his decommitment announcement, Bacon thanked Josh Heupel and several other Tennessee coaches for recruiting him.

    “I want to make sure I’m making the best decision for my future,” Bacon wrote in-part on social media.

    First off I want to thank Coach Heupel, Coach Chop,Coach Garner, Coach Banks, Coach Ayers ,and the University Of Tennessee for taking my commitment. After careful consideration I want to open back up my recruiting. I want to make sure I’m making the best decision for my future.

    Bacon is a tough loss for the Vols in the class of 2026. He’s the No. 297 overall player and the No. 34 defensive lineman in the country for this cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 14 player from the state of Alabama.

    Bacon attends Hoover High School in Hoover, Alabama. His decision to decommit comes just a couple weeks after he earned an offer from Ohio State. His offer list also includes programs like Alabama, Florida, Miami and Georgia, amongst others.

    Tennessee is now down to 7 commits in the class of 2026. The group ranks No. 22 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
