Ryan Seacrest Makes Bold Statement About Katy Perrys Controversial Trip to Space

Katy Perry's decision to embark on Blue Origin's trip to space has received significant backlash and plenty of polarizing takes. But it was Ryan Seacrest — the longtime American Idol host who worked with Perry for years during her time as a judge on the show — who had something decidedly different to say.

In addition to praising the "Roar" singer's safe return, Seacrest recently admitted toE! Newsthat Perry "is braver than I am" for skyrocketing to outer space.

Luke Bryan — who worked with his fellow judge Perry for numerous seasons of Idol — was also relieved that the "E.T." singer's safety was paramount. As for watching Blue Origin's takeoff on Monday, April 15, "I was sucked into the moment," the country star confessed. Bryan also revealed he was eager to hear the 13-time Grammy nominee's perspective on the viral — and groundbreaking — adventure.

“I’ll be interested to hear her version of it,” Bryan told E!. “She was just like, ‘It was just totally crazy.’ She didn’t really elaborate more than that."

In the wake of the passengers' safe return — a rocket made up of an historic all-female crew that included other A-listers like Gayle King and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos' fiancée Lauren Sánchez — many have critiqued the flight and space tourism as a whole. The backlash has been swift, with many sharing claiming the flight was a large-scale cash grab for rich celebrities that only exacerbated the wealth disparity in America.

King — who, like Perry, kissed the ground after her safe return to Earth last Monday, has addressed the criticism lobbied at her and her crewmates, who were all dubbed "astronauts" during the livestream of the launch and landing.

"I wish people would do more due diligence," the CBS Mornings host told Extra soon after she arrived safely back to Earth. "And then my question is, 'Have y'all been to space?' Go to space or go to Blue Origin and see what they do and then come back and say, 'This is a terrible thing.'" She added: "Every time a flight goes up, they get some type of information that can be used for something else."
