The Maratué project aims to reconnect the existing town of Puchuncaví with the coastline, adding 650ha of conservation areas, public parks and open spaces, with 14,000 new homes, over 2,000 of which are for social housing.
One residential neighbourhood will be located alongside Puchuncaví, the other closer to the coast. Both are broken up into three human-scale clusters containing green areas in the centre.
A green spine will meet an existing highway which runs through the development’s centre.
Areas with ecological value are to be preserved, with pathways, wildlife observatories and wetland parks added. Residents will never be more than a five-minute walk from a green area.
Juan Frigerio, Foster + Partners, said: “Our sustainable masterplan will protect, connect, and enhance Maratué. We are creating a vibrant green spine that weaves its way across the site and seamlessly connects Puchuncaví with the Pacific Ocean.”
