Dry and warmer weather was expected for the San Diego region over the next few days, but forecasters said Sunday to expect gradual cooling settling in by mid-week accompanied by low clouds and fog near the coast.
Inland valley areas will be mostly sunny through Tuesday, with highs in the mid-70s, then patchy fog and partly cloudy conditions moving in by Wednesday morning.
Coastal areas can expect light winds on Monday, with a mix of partly sunny conditions through the week and highs ranging in the mid-60s, according to the National Weather Service.
“Rinse and repeat Tuesday with another degree or two drop in high temperatures for the coasts and valleys, and degree or two rise for the mountains and deserts,” the NWS San Diego office said in a discussion.
“The cooling trend that started along the coast will then spread inland for the rest of the week, with slightly to about 10 degree below average temperatures through most of the region by Thu-Fri.”
Some drizzles could arrive with the cooling and cloud cover, but no significant rain is expected.
Desert areas will also see warmer weather, with highs ranging in the mid-80s to low 90s. The mountains will have mainly cloudy conditions through the week with highs ranging in the low 60s to low 70s.
City News Service contributed to this report.
On Sunday, downtown San Diego was expected to see patchy fog before 11 a.m., with mostly sunny conditions and a high near 69. The overnight low was expected to be around 54, according to the NWS.
Monday’s San Diego surf forecast includes a low-risk rip current, with surf from 1 to 3 feet and southwest swell from 220 degrees.
“Afternoon and evening winds will strengthen slightly across the mountains and deserts for the latter half of the week,” the NWS said.
No hazardous marine conditions are expected through Thursday.
