It was announced on Wednesday that Biles will serve as the Riders Up announcer at the 151st Kentucky Derby.

The Riders Up command is given before every Kentucky Derby and signals the jockeys to mount their horses.

It has become part of the ceremony to have a celebrity come to the race and give the command before the race.

Last year it was Martha Stewart who gave the command and Patrick Mahomes had the microphone in 2023.

The trend started in 2012, when Kentucky Wildcats basketball head coach John Calipari was given the call after winning the national championship.

Here are all of the Riders Up announcers since the tradition started:

John Calipari (2012) Charlie Strong (2013) Julius Irving (2014) Teddy Bridgewater (2015) Sean Payton (2016) Jeff Bridges (2017) Laila Ali (2018) Baker Mayfield (2019) D. Wayne Lukas (2021) Jack Harlow (2022) Patrick Mahomes (2023) Martha Stewart (2024) Simone Biles (2025)

Participating in the Kentucky Derby is another accomplishment in a list of awards Biles has received recently.

In January of 2024 she was named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year.

This year she was one of six athletes to be named to Time’s Most Influential People list.

Fans are thrilled to see Biles at the Kentucky Derby this year and shared their excitement on social media.

“A highlight of Derby Day,” one fan said.

“LETS GO! Huge!!” another fan said.

“The first time the announcer of Riders Up could vault the entire 20 horse field and land on her feet, if she wants to,” a third fan said.

“This is AMAZING,” a fourth fan said.

    'Mother hen' Biles

Simone Biles' first coach Aimee Boorman exclusively told The U.S. Sun that she thinks Biles will be spurred by a new role this year.

“Having younger teammates benefits her because she has stepped in as the mother hen figure,” said Aimee.

“And so she has to tell them to stay calm. You’ve got this. You’re prepared. And so as she’s saying it, she’s also hearing it.

“You always have tiny kids that come into the gym, but they’re never ripped like Simone was,” she said.

“I know she was very self-conscious about it growing up. But from a coaching perspective, it was great.

“I didn’t think that Simone would be a multi gold medal athlete straight away.

“But she did stand out because she was very tiny, but very muscular.”

Biles isn’t the only notable gymnast to get an honor during this year’s Kentucky Derby.

Olivia Dunne is also being included in the iconic race.

Dunne will give he Riders Up command ahead of the Kentucky Oaks this year.

The Kentucky Oaks is held on the Friday before the Kentucky Derby every year.

The 151st Kentucky Derby will run on Saturday, May 3. The main event is scheduled for 6:57 pm ET.
