Shortt clocked a mark of 1:56.61 to claim the top spot out of the men’s 200m back semi-finals, lowering his previous Irish benchmark of 1:57.68 in the process. You can read more about his achievement here.
Olympic champion Daniel Wiffen was back in the water to follow-up his 800m free victory from last night in Dublin.
24-year-old Wiffen stopped the clock at 3:46.87 in an essentially one-man race, beating the field by almost 7 seconds.
The performance represents a season-best for the freestyle ace and now ranks the Loughborough standout 10th in the world this season.

Tom Fannon grabbed the gold in the men’s 50m free, registering a podium-topping result of 21.91 as the sole swimmer of the field under the 22-second barrier.
Fannon was quicker in both the prelims (21.78) and semi-finals (21.77) with all three efforts clearing the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 22.05 needed to add his name to the Irish roster for Singapore.
Runner-up status behind Fannon went to Olympian Shane Ryan who logged 22.53, well off the mark he needed to solidify his slot on the Irish roster for this summer’s World Championships.
National record holder Mona McSharry accomplished her World Championships-qualifying mission, registering a time of 1:06.87 to grab gold in the women’s 100m breast.
University of Tennesee’s McSharry opened in 31.37 and closed in 35.50 to match the ‘A’ cut of 1:06.87 exactly.
Although she missed the ‘A’ cut, runner-up Ellie McCartney logged a time of 1:06.97 en route to silver, establishing the first-ever sub-1:07 time of her career. She and McSharry are the only Irish swimmers ever to have been in the 1:06-zone.

Grace Davison topped the women’s 100m free podium with a result of 56.08, well off her lifetime best of 55.21 from the 2023 McCullagh International Meet. Germany’s Luca Armbuster produced a winning effort of 52.38 to claim gold in the men’s 100m fly. The next-closest competitor was Jack Cassin who snagged silver in 53.14. Olympian and multi-national record holder Ellen Walshe got it done in the women’s 100m fly, earning the top seed out of the semi-final with an outing of 58.24.
