Cam Ward finished off his winding collegiate journey with a season for the ages at Miami in 2024.
The guy who started at tiny Incarnate Word and then built up his stature with 2 seasons at Washington State finished things off with a flourish last fall in the ACC. Ward threw for a whopping 4,313 yards with 39 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions, and added 204 yards rushing and 4 more TDs for the Hurricanes, who were in the College Football Playoff race for most of the season, mostly because of Ward.
And now? Well, now the 6-foot-2, 223-pound Texas native is poised to be one of the top picks in the NFL Draft. In a few short weeks, Ward’s life will surely change when some lucky team selects him at the draft in Green Bay.
That’s all well and good, but on Friday’s broadcast of ESPN’s Get Up, analyst Kevin Clark went way past the draft hype for Ward and centered on the player who reminds him of Ward. That player? That would be 3-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes, who happens to be the current face of the NFL.
“As a prospect, he’s the closest thing to Patrick Mahomes since Patrick Mahomes,” said Clark.
