Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President and Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly Naveen Patnaik on Monday reaffirmed his party’s unwavering commitment to secularism and the welfare of minority communities.
Naveen made this statement after a delegation of minority community members led by BJD MP Munna Khan met with him to discuss on the Waqf Bill.
Addressing the gathering, the BJD supremo emphasized that the Biju Janata Dal has always stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the minority brothers and sisters and will continue to do so in the future.
“The BJD remains steadfast in its commitment to secular ideals,” he said, reiterating the party’s long-standing dedication to fostering inclusivity and harmony.
Highlighting the party’s track record, Naveen pointed out that the BJD government had implemented numerous initiatives aimed at the development and upliftment of minority communities.
He also recalled a defining moment in the party’s history, noting that it was this very commitment to secular principles that led BJD to end its alliance with the BJP in 2009 in the wake of Kandhamal riots.
“For the sake of these ideals, we took a firm stand then, and we will continue to fight for the interests of minorities,” he asserted.
Drawing inspiration from the legacy of former Chief Minister and great freedom fighter Biju Patnaik, Naveen added, “Biju Babu stood with the minorities, and I stand with them too.”
The statement resonated deeply with the delegation, reinforcing BJD’s resolve to uphold its secular ethos.
