Prince William and Prince Harry just lost a beloved confidant from their childhood. Their former bodyguard, Graham Craker, has died at the age of 77.
The news of his passing was initially reported by The Sun, who noted that Craker walked with them behind the hearse carrying their mother, Princess Diana, on the way to her funeral at Westminster Abbey after her tragic death in a car crash in Paris. William was 15 and Harry was 12 at the time. Craker also sat in the front of the hearse for the ride to her burial.

According to The Sun, Craker worked for the royal family for 15 years and retired in 2001. He also served as part of the U.K.'s Metropolitan Police for 35 years.
While Craker may have been doing his duty as a royal bodyguard when the young princes lost their mother, The Sun recalls an interview he gave after his retirement, which shows just how much he cared about them and their wellbeing. He reportedly said:
"Perhaps the most emotional was seeing William the morning after. I saw William walking his dog outside, and I walked up to him and said, ‘I’m very, very sorry to hear your bad news’. William very sadly said, 'Thank you'."
Craker also added, "I was standing at the rear of the hearse and William looked up and acknowledged me. I looked toward him and nodded. William was comforted I was with his mum on her final journey."
Prince Harry also held Craker in high regard, even referencing him in his memoir, Spare, saying:
"The driver had to keep pulling over so the bodyguard could get out and clear the flowers off the windscreen. The bodyguard was Graham. Willy and I liked him a lot. We always called him Crackers. We thought that was hysterical."
It certainly sounds like Craker served as a great source of comfort to both William and Harry during one of the most difficult times in their lives, and we're sure they'll treasure the fond memories they have of him for years to come.
