A FURIOUS car owner is faced with a bizarre issue every time it rains.
She’s forced to pull the drain plugs on her door and watch rainwater pour out, and now other drivers are saying the exact same thing is happening to them.
TikTok user Kate shared a video of her 2020 Toyota Corolla holding pints of water inside the door after wet weather.
In the short clip, she shows how she removes the rubber drain plugs at the bottom of her car door to let the water pour out, a step she says she has to take every single time it rains.
She captioned the clip: “Does anyone else’s Toyota do this???
“I can’t be the only one”.
Turns out, she’s not.
One viewer replies: “Omg I just got a used 2020 Corolla and mine does the same thing.”
“I thought it was only me.”
But others were baffled: “Whaaaaat girl. I’ve had 3 Toyotas and never had to do that.”
The reason is because cars are built with small holes in the bottom of the doors called drain holes.
These are designed to let water out when it sneaks in past window seals, especially during rain or a car wash.
These holes can clog up. Leaves, road dirt, and debris can block the drain holes, trapping water inside the door.
That can lead to rust, mold, or a damp smell inside your car.
If you notice water sloshing in your door or dripping out after opening it, check the bottom of the door for small holes.
You can clear them out using a paperclip, small wire, or even a bobby pin.
Some people also remove the rubber plugs entirely to help the water drain more easily.
A blast of water from a hose (aimed carefully) can help flush out any grime blocking the holes.
Car makers also add other drainage points across the body, like around the sunroof, trunk, or bonnet to stop water from seeping into the cabin.
