The Genius Popcorn Trick Fans Are Calling an Absolute Delight

Since going gluten-free, popcorn has become my absolute go-to snack—it's light, crunchy and endlessly customizable. It’s naturally gluten-free, making it a great choice for those with dietary restrictions. Plus, it’s packed with fiber, which helps keep you full longer. Air-popped popcorn is also low in calories and has a very short list of ingredients (just popcorn kernels!).

One of popcorn’s best qualities is its versatility. You can keep it classic with butter and salt or experiment with flavors, like garlic parmesan, cinnamon sugar or get a little spicy with sriracha. It pairs well with both sweet and savory toppings, so there’s a version for every craving.

Popcorn is also budget-friendly and easy to prepare. A big batch takes just minutes, whether you’re using an air popper, stovetop or microwave. It’s the perfect snack for movie nights, parties or just a quick bite between meals. Plus, it has a satisfying crunch without the heaviness of fried snacks.

Beyond taste and texture, popcorn offers antioxidants, which have been linked to various health benefits. So, while it feels like an indulgence, it’s actually doing some good for your body. Delicious, affordable and packed with possibilities—popcorn truly earns its title as a top-tier snack!

But even with all I know about popcorn, I’m always on the lookout for new ways to make it even better, and this version from content creator Kate Strickler (@naptimekitchen) is a total winner. It’s simple, satisfying and the perfect balance of sweet and salty.

The Sweet & Salty Popcorn Hack You Need to Know About

In the video, Kate demonstrates how she makes one of her favorite snacks: chocolate chip popcorn. Yeah, as soon as we heard that we, too, were all ears. Here's how to do it.

Just pop your popcorn, sprinkle on some chocolate chips, cover the bowl for a minute to let them melt, then shake it all up. Finish with a generous sprinkle of sea salt and enjoy! Pro tip: This will get a little messy (but in the best way). If you’re making it for kids, swap the chocolate chips for M&Ms to avoid sticky fingers, Kate says.

The chocolate-sea salt combo is next-level delicious and it's easy to customize, too. For example, you could drizzle warmed-up peanut butter over the popcorn before adding chocolate chips for a sweet-salty combo, or add a pinch of cayenne or chili powder to the popcorn before tossing with the melted chocolate for a spicy kick.

I really like the idea of M&Ms in the popcorn, but I would take it to the next level with some Reese’s Pieces or toffee bits for a candy-shop-style snack. If you want to keep this snack on the lighter side, you could try with dark chocolate chips and slivered almonds for a heart-healthy boost.

I love how easy this idea is, and how the idea of tossing in some chocolate chips inspired me to think of so many other popcorn variations. I can't wait to give this trick a try!
