2025 Speedo Sectionals – Christiansburg, Virginia
March 27-30, 2025 Christiansburg Aquatic Center – Christiansburg, VA SCY (25 yards); Prelims/Finals Results on Meet Mobile “2022 EZ Reg 2 SC Speedo Champ Series”The Northern Kentucky Clippers took an early lead on both the girls and boys sides of competition at the 2025 Christiansburg Sectionals, as competition kicked off last night with two of the weekend’s distance events: the girls 1650 free and the boys 1000 free.
Northern Kentucky’s Clare Herfel cruised to victory in the 1650, bringing home the title in 16:54.43. Despite adding about 6.5 seconds to her lifetime best (16:47.90), the 15-year-old easily swept past the competition, as she won by over 18 seconds. Herfel was the only one in the pool under 17:00.
The runner-up behind Herfel was Emerson Gratz from the Nittany Lion Aquatic Club. Gratz enjoyed a tremendous personal performance, throwing down a lifetime best time of 17:12.75 to knock almost 30 seconds off of her previous best.
Potomac Marlins’ Lien Nguyen rounded out the top three with her time of 17:16.17. Nguyen’s performance also marked a personal best and her first time under 17:20, as she shaved 7.43 off of her time.
The boys 1000 free went to Lancaster Aquatic Club’s Trevor Olson, who blasted into the wall in a winning time of 9:17.24. The Lafayette commit dropped over 10 seconds from his previous best, which he set back in December, to launch himself into the top spot nearly seven seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Also turning in a lifetime best performance was Northern Kentucky’s Cono Presti, who snagged the runner-up spot in 9:24.13. The swim marked a best time by over nine seconds and marked his first time under 9:30 in the race.
Racing continues today with five events on the lineup, including the first of the relay events.
