Florida DB Asa Turner has been granted an additional year of eligibility, Billy Napier revealed on Thursday when speaking to the media at UF’s Pro Day.
The 2025 season would be Year 7 of Turner’s college career. He played at Washington from 2019-23 before transferring to Florida. The 2024 season was set to be his 6th year as a redshirt senior with the COVID waiver, but he played only briefly in Week 1 before suffering a season-ending injury.
Though Turner is cleared to play, Napier chose his words carefully discussing the defensive back’s college football future.
He’s been granted an extra year of eligibility, and I think his role on our team and his health is a little bit to be determined,” Napier said, per On3’s Zach Abolverdi. “But I think in general, it’s a good thing for him.
Abolverdi notes Turner has not been a spring practice participant. He is also not currently listed on Florida’s 2025 roster. Turner hoped to return during the 2024 season and did not have surgery on his right hamstring until the offseason.
His career has been extended for a year, and then we’ll kind of see where we end up,” Napier told reporters. “He’s a guy who’s had injury issues through his career, not only here but also at Washington. But great kid, very smart, very dependable. Just gotta work on the durability piece.
