"Living legend" Neil Sedaka, who penned countless hits from the '50s and beyond, treated fans to a "crisp" performance of one of his classics in a new social media video, and his followers were thrilled to see that he's "still killing it" all these years later.
After "Pretty Little Baby," released in 1962, experienced a wild resurgence in the last week or so thanks to TikTok, Sedaka looked back on another special moment with singer Connie Francis, who turned his 1959-written track "Stupid Cupid" into his "first hit record."
While sitting at his piano, Sedaka, now 86, recounted the moment he first played the song for Francis at her New Jersey home. It came after playing "all my best ballads," every single one of which she passed on, looking "bored to death" according to his recollection. He took a chance on "Stupid Cupid," even though it wasn't "a Connie Francis-type song," and his instinct was right—she said, "That's my next record!"
The musician then dove right into the track, playing it on the piano as he joyfully sang along, and fans were delighted by the sneak peek at his own performance talents.
