Will Campbell improves arm measurement at LSU Pro Day

Will Campbell hit the field on Wednesday for his pro day performance at LSU. He comes out of the performance with a key measurement update, though it’s undoubtedly one that will receive a bit of scrutiny.

When Campbell’s official measurements were taken, his arm size came in at 33″, which is an improvement from his NFL Combine measurements. While in Indianapolis, Campbell’s arm length came in at just 32 5/8″.

The measurement, while not a sole indicator of success, is pertinent for prospects looking to become offensive tackles in the NFL. The typical measurement teams look for at the tackle position is 34″ or longer with 33″ traditionally the baseline for the tackle position. Anything less than 33″ would potentially raise red flags for some teams.

For what it’s worth, Campbell is not the only draft prospect with shifting measurements. Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe was a subject of mini controversy at the combine after his hands measured well over 9″ after previously falling under the 9″ threshold during the Senior Bowl.

So, what does the difference in Campbell’s measurements mean in the grand scheme of things? That depends on the individual, but the inconsistency of the process has left some frustrated.

Here’s a glance at the reactions after Campbell’s arms checked in at 33″:

The lack of consistency in measurements this year is exhausting. Campbell was sub-33" before the season, sub-33" at the Combine, and now 33" (from an NFL Scout) at pro day.Teams will pick the number they trust and that'll be their number. But this is very frustrating. t.co/lsi8ixxX72

I’ve never seen anything like this Will Campbell arm length stuff. We have three different measurements with opinions all over the map on if it matters or not.At this point, you either like the player or don’t regardless of his arm length.

Will Campbell has 2600 snaps at a LT in the SEC… Go watch those and evaluate his length profile. Putting sizes/metrics/times into a machine and pulling the lever doesn't ever tell you 'GOOD' or 'BAD' player. t.co/iyCG8SAeAS

This year you should assume a player's actual arm length is about .5 inch more than their combine measurement. If they measured in at a bowl or pro day go with that number.Combine/Pro Day arm lengths for top OL:Josh Conerly – 33.5/34.25Will Campbell – 32.625/33Tyler Booker -… t.co/bViycI8zQS
