CBS Sports analyst Tim Doyle has apologized for calling Ole Miss “frauds” ahead of the NCAA Tournament.
Doyle upset Rebels fans everywhere with his take on Chris Beard’s team. When the 68-team bracket was unveiled, Ole Miss had to wait to learn its opening-round matchup. The Rebels drew a 6-seed that would first play the winner of a First Four play-in game.
Doyle predicted that either 11-seed, North Carolina or San Diego State, would beat Ole Miss in the Round of 64. That proved to be an extremely cold take from Doyle. The Rebels defeated North Carolina 71-64 in opening round and then dominated Iowa State to advance to the Sweet 16.
Doyle addressed the state of Mississippi and Ole Miss grads before placing a card with “I’m dumb” written on it as a pocket square. He continued.
“Ninety-one points against Iowa State, I could never have dreamed a tournament performance like that,” Doyle said. “Sean Pedulla was outstanding. He had help. Six Ole Miss players in double figures. This was an Iowa State team I thought could play defense. This is an Iowa State team I thought could control Ole Miss. Not so much.
“I was wrong, and I will say, ‘I am dumb.'”
Doyle’s CBS Sports co-hosts pushed him to go a step further.
“I.. am … a fraud,” Doyle finally offered.
Doyle shared that he would be at the Arkansas vs. Ole Miss football game and get in a dunk tank.
“I’m in the business of giving opinions. My opinion stunk and I was wrong,” Doyle said.
On Friday, Doyle took to social media to take credit for providing Ole Miss with motivation.
