Former Mizzou basketball player Marcus Denmon and his brother were arrested in Kansas City earlier this week in connection with a January armed robbery in Tulsa, Oklahoma, according to multiple reports.
The Kansas City Star reported that Denmon, 34, is being charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. Denmon and his brother, Malik, were charged in Tulsa County District Court and arrested in Kansas City on Thursday.
The local NBC affiliate in Kansas City reported that Denmon and his brother “ambushed” a woman as she was putting bags in her vehicle around 8 p.m. local time on Thursday. The victim reported stolen belongings as well as $15,000 to $16,000 in cash. She claimed to be preparing to travel for a friend’s bachelorette party.
According to NBC 41, Denmon rented a vehicle in Missouri 3 days before the robbery in Oklahoma and tinted the windows before the night of the alleged incident.
Police discovered “suspicious” cash deposits at various ATMs in the Kansas City area in the days following the alleged robbery, including almost $4,000 deposited between Jan. 17 and Jan. 26 and over $2,500 between Jan. 17 and Jan. 21.
A judge set Denmon’s bond at $50,000
A Kansas City native, Denmon played as a guard for Mizzou for 4 years from 2008-12. He was a 2-time All-Big 12 guard and an All-American as a senior in 2011-12. Denmon left Columbia with 1,775 career points scored. He was drafted in the second round by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2012 NBA Draft.
