Temperatures across the UK are set to plunge by 10°C next week, with forecasters predicting days will have a “chillier feel”.
The shift in weather will come after much of the UK has enjoyed a dry and mild start to March, with a sunny and warm weekend ahead.
On Saturday, York is set to see highs of 17°C and sunshine. By contrast, temperatures in the north Yorkshire city will fall to 7°C next week and it will feel even colder, according to the Met Office.
In Lincoln, which has seen temperatures of 16°C on Thursday, the coming Wednesday is forecast to be as cool as 7°C, three degrees below the seasonal average.

“Temperatures are expected to drop below the seasonal average, with a chillier feel setting in – though there will still be some sunshine at times.”
The high teen temperatures are well above average for the time of year when the mercury tends to settle around the 10°C mark.
The warmest March day recorded was in 1997 when the mercury soared to 25.6°C in Cornwall. If temperatures reach 17°C on Thursday it will make it the hottest day of the year so far.
Some areas of the UK will be hotter than parts of Spain over the coming days. Barcelona is forecast to have highs of 13°C.

Ahead of the significant drop in temperatures, more rain showers are on their way. Thursday evening will see more clouds coming in from the west bringing spells of rain, with heavy burst possible overnight.
Outbreaks of rain are expected to linger across parts of Wales and northern parts of England throughout Friday.
“Many across England and Wales have been able to put the raincoats away recently but some will need to dig them out again tomorrow,” the Met Office said.
“A cold front swinging across the UK will bring spells of rain, heavy and possibly thundery at times. These will push north during the day.”
