Mindy Kaling is pulling out all the stops this awards season, wearing a gorgeous embroidered sari to a red carpet event that left fans saying “What an extraordinary gown.”
The veteran writer, producer, and actress took to the red carpet at the annual South Asians at the Oscars event, which she called a “highlight of the year,” wearing a show-stopping custom black sari with colorful beading and embroidery from designer Rahul Mishra.

Mishra is a Kaling favorite, dressing her for red carpet appearances like the premiere of her latest venture, Netflix’s Running Point, where she wore a form-fitting hand-embroidered gold gown with dangling brass leaf appliqués on the skirt.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who along with her manager Anjula Acharia “dreamed up” the event, has been spotted wearing Mishra designs, as has Queen Latifah, who wore his “Reverberating Metropolis” cape to the 2025 Grammys.
Kaling shared photos from the night on Instagram, from a red carpet pose to a mirror selfie in the gown, as well as a mock-up of the custom garment from the designer.

She posed with attendees, including lawyer and Tony-winning producer Meena Harris, who is former vice president Kamala Harris’ niece, and actress Poorna Jagannathan, who starred in Never Have I Ever, which Kaling produced and wrote.
Kaling also posed alongside Ghosts star Utkarsh Ambudkar, who has appeared in several Kaling vehicles, including The Mindy Project where he played her brother, and Never Have I Ever, where he played the main character’s favorite teacher.
In the last photo in the carousel, Kaling beamed widely at the camera as she and her former assistant, TV writer Akshara Sekar, posed with Taco Bell items “for our annual after-party feast in my kitchen,” she wrote.
Kaling received a lot of praise from fans, who rushed into the comments to say they were “obsessed” and that the Office star was looking “Gorgeous as always.”
“Beyond stunning and always Taco Bell for the win!” wrote one commenter, and others agreed, writing, “so fun! also ended the night with taco bell and ate it like a goblin ??.”
