How to Make This Easy Chocolate and Strawberry Treat
The beauty of this recipe is that it's super simple. It’s the kind of treat you can whip up without a second thought, and the ingredient list is something you can feel good about. And all you need is ripe bananas, rich dark chocolate and fresh strawberries!
Start by melting some dark chocolate with a touch of coconut oil. This step is crucial, as the oil gives the chocolate a smoother texture and a satisfying snap once it’s frozen. You can do this in the microwave, heating in short bursts and stirring in between, or mix it up in a double-boiler on the stove if you don't have a microwave.
Next up, the bananas, which add natural sweetness and creaminess without the need for any added sugar. Blend them with the melted chocolate together until you have a thick, luscious mixture. It should be velvety smooth, almost like a chocolate mousse.
It's the kind of thing you’d be tempted to eat with a spoon right then and there, but hold off, because this gets even better!
Once your chocolate-banana blend is ready, it’s time to add the final touch. You can use halved berries or whole ones, depending on how big you want your bites to be. Place them in silicone molds or small muffin liners, or put them in a parchment-lined baking dish for large bark-like pieces, then pour the banana-chocolate mixture over the top, covering each berry completely. If you put them in a mold, add popsicle sticks to the middle to make this a full-blown summer treat.
Pop the filled molds into the freezer for a few hours. As the mixture freezes, the strawberries stay juicy and bright, while the banana-chocolate mixture hardens into a rich, creamy shell that’s deeply satisfying to bite into.
Two or three hours in the freezer should do it, but overnight works too if you’re making them ahead for a summer party or a post-dinner treat. When you’re ready to enjoy, just pop them out of the molds and take a bite. You’ll get that immediate hit of cold, creamy chocolate, followed by the burst of sweet, slightly tart strawberry. It’s the kind of treat that hits all the right notes: sweet, creamy and a little fruity.
This recipe is perfect for those days when you want something sweet but don’t have the time or the energy for a full-blown baking session. It’s a crowd-pleaser for kids and adults, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself making a double batch just to keep a stash in the freezer for snack emergencies.
