Making the tragedy even sadder is new information from a source that told Parade that Trachtenberg was making plans for her 40th birthday, which would have occurred on Oct. 11.
“Nobody ever thought this would happen,” the source told Parade. “She was upbeat and present for her friends and even talked about her 40th birthday. She was an amazing one. She had so many friends and a huge heart. People just loved Michelle. She didn’t want the people worrying about her health wise.”
ABC News reported that the actress "recently underwent a liver transplant and may have been experiencing complications," and police have confirmed that foul play is not suspected in her death. A formal cause of death is pending autopsy and investigation results.
Trachtenberg was known for her roles in films like 17 Again, Inspector Gadget, Harriet the Spy, Ice Princess and EuroTrip. Additionally, she appeared in TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gossip Girl and Human Kind Of, among others.
In the wake of her death, fellow celebrities--including Gossip Girl alum Blake Lively, actor Ed Westwick, comedian Rosie O’Donnell and Melissa Gilbert--took to social media or issued statements to share their reactions to the shocking news.
"She was electricity," Lively's tribute began. "You knew when she entered a room because the vibration changed. Everything she did, she did 200%. She laughed the fullest at someone’s joke, she faced authority head on when she felt something was wrong, she cared deeply about her work, she was proud to be a part of this community and industry as painful as it could be sometimes, she was fiercely loyal to her friends and brave for those she loved, she was big and bold and distinctly herself. And she always had yummy caramel smelling lipgloss on because she didn’t just want to sparkle on camera, she liked creating a nice experience for anyone who was in her orbit, even down to the subtle smell of her lipgloss because she cared about the sweet details."
