Posting a teaser audio clip of the new track via Instagram earlier this week, Wallen explained that the song was dedicated to his 4-year-old son Indigo.

In the lyrics, Wallen appears to address some of his problematic behavior in the past, singing to his son, "One day you’re gonna see my mugshot/From a night when I got a little too drunk."

"Hear a song about a girl I lost/From the times that I just wouldn’t grow up/And when you ain’t a kid no more/I hope you don’t think less of me/I try to hide my falling short/But you’re gonna see."

The song continues, "Now and then that bottle's my kryptonite, brings a man of steel down to his knees."

"Don’t always know my wrongs from right/Sometimes I’m my own worst enemy/No I don’t always save the day/But you know for you I’ll always try/I do the best I can/But Superman's still just a man sometimes."

Wallen has made headlines more than once for various controversies, including his most recent arrest in April 2024 after he threw a chair from a rooftop bar during a night out in Nashville, Tenn. He pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and as a result, was sentenced to probation and a week in a DUI education center.

He was also arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct in 2020, though those charges were later dropped.

Also in 2020, Wallen faced backlash for not complying with COVID-19 protocol regulations, causing him to be pulled from multiple gigs, including an appearance on SNL.

In 2021, scandal erupted again when he was caught using a racial slur on video. He later issued an apology, stating at the time that he was "embarrassed and sorry," but he was still suspended from his record label and his hit songs were pulled from radio stations across the country.

While sharing a snippet of his vulnerable new track this week, Wallen wrote, "Been trying for a long time to write a song I loved to my son. None of them ever feel good enough because of how perfect I want something like this to be. And not saying this is perfect, but I am very proud of it. Here is a clip, It’s called 'Superman.'"

"This is so real. Damn this is good," one of the "Whiskey Glasses" singer's followers wrote in the comments.

"Appreciate the vulnerability in this one," someone else added, while one fan said they were brought to "immediate tears" over the emotional new song.
