The Jacksonville Jaguars address the defensive front in Mel Kiper’s latest 2025 NFL mock draft over at ESPN.
This is version 2.0 of Kiper’s draft projections, and just like he did last month, Kiper again has the Jaguars taking Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham.
This, of course, is a popular selection for the Jaguars, but one that makes all the sense in the world.
Graham is a force inside, tallying 34 pressures and five sacks in 2024, along with being one of PFF’s most productive run defenders, ranking first in grade and second in run-stop rate.
A player of Graham’s caliber not only has the ability to fill his own stat sheet, but a strong presence along the interior can create opportunities for others within the offense as well, with the attention that he draws and the space that he occupies.
“He uses his leverage, power and quickness to wreak havoc from the inside,” wrote Kiper. “He has the traits and upside of a top-three prospect in this class.”
As we saw from the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, a really good defensive front has the ability to take over a game.
For the Jaguars’ this is a position group that has to improve in 2025. By ESPN’s run-stop rate metric, Jacksonville ranked 27th last season and they were 32nd in pass-rush win rate as well.
Building this Jaguars’ team through the trenches is going to be a priority for new head coach Liam Coen.
“That’s where it starts,” said Coen of the trenches in his first press conference. “To go win playoff games and to go and do it, you’ve got to be able to run the football and stop the run, first and foremost.”
