The Arizona Diamondbacks’ 4-2 win against the San Francisco Giants wasn’t without some controversy when fan Dave McCaskill interfered with a ball tracking for the wall in left field.
And if D-backs fans watching the replay of the out overturned to a double in the eighth inning had a moment of deja vu, you’re not alone.
It’s not McCaskill’s first rodeo — or ejection — when it comes to snagging long balls at Chase Field.
“If you look there’s been some other videos, I have been ejected (from my seat) three times officially,” McCaskill told Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta on Tuesday. “Two of those were so close to the line just like last night.

“If you watch the video, I catch the ball and my glove comes down. The angle of the camera, it wasn’t the best angle, but that’s my defense. But I apologize to the D-backs. I apologize to the D-backs fans. I would never interfere. Alek Thomas is my favorite player.”
It didn’t take long for people to put two and two together after seeing the video of McCaskill, who’s been a D-backs season ticket holder in the outfield for the past six seasons.
Aside from his two catches on Monday — the other being a Lourdes Gurriel Jr. homer — McCaskill has been in the interference limelight often behind “nine or 10” reviews.
Two of those instances came against the Giants. First in 2022 and then again on Monday.

“When this happens, the first thing I do is I turn and I start asking people, ‘Did I reach over?’ because that one I thought I was right down the line but obviously I leaned over,” McCaskill, who has around 1,200 autographed baseballs, said. “So, I was a little scared.
“When the security guards come down, yesterday for some reason there was eight security guards and sheriffs, half of them were laughing and patting me on the back. I went up the stairs and there was one guard that was not happy with me.”
And for those wondering if this most recent incident has changed McCaskill’s thinking?
“Hopefully the D-backs will let me back in (Tuesday night),” he said.
“There’s three or four of us out there. We’re all good friends. We all kind of have this little challenge,” McCaskill added. “My buddy Rob has 23 or 24. I have 24 now. My buddy Mike has like 21 or so. We’ve been there. It’s a little competition between all of us.
